My current work observes the temporary migration to the legendary paradise known as Florida. I show a generalized or stereotypical view of the means
and relics of the temporary immigrant in an eclectic fashion. I am fascinated with the idea of people moving to a place temporarily in temporary houses,
such as the trailer. There is a subculture that exists within trailer park communities, motels, and the older population known as “snowbirds”. I ask
myself, why someone would move hundreds or thousands of miles away to live in a tiny, cramped trailer for a few months of warmer weather. I too had
an exotic expectation of Florida, but as I live here, it is like anywhere else, but has unique qualities. But, there are those that stay here permanently, living
in small motels or houses on wheels. My work Migration and Relics attempts to show this Florida travel culture truthfully, but exaggerated, to prompt the
viewer to question the quirks of this migratory lifestyle. I tried to use authentic materials, such as an Oldsmobile station wagon bumper, to give a
genuine, believable feel to the piece in a somewhat serious, formal presentation.
